Advancements
Following many years of experimentation with the “UCC Caseless Cartridge Weapons System” and the development of bolt-action, semi-automatic, and fully automatic weapons to fire the UCC ammunition was not quite ready. His ultimate goal was to prove that the technology worked, and that the technology could be applied to most standard firearms.
Much of Usel’s success have occurred recently with the development through his son Reinhard and Mr. Keller - Together they perfected and built an operating leak-proof gas firing chambers retrofittable to most standard, small caliber firearms; thus overcoming the one remaining obstacle that for many years prevented complete acceptance of this technology. By eliminating gas leaks, not only is muzzle velocity increased, but the weapon becomes much safer to use and erosion within the firing chamber is eliminated.
Reinhard Schieferle was a key developer of the first commercially available weapon system (the VEC 91) using caseless ammunition. He has been working on firing systems for weapons since 1974. Caseless Technology retained him to perfect the final retrofit system currently used in the U.C.C. Weapons system. He has created a retrofit system for caseless ammunition with muzzle velocities adjustable between 970 and 1020 meters/second that is extremely accurate and results in no residue.
Despite all the setbacks to bring this product on the market, through Mr. Keller the old "Spirit of Usel" has prevailed… "the spirit of determination to succeed."
The most recent advancements made in UCC technology include:
- Complete combustion of primer, booster, and propellant without any residue.
- More mechanically stable propellant formula with substantially longer shelf life.
- Dramatic increase in propellant curing time 1/30 over previous UCC formulas.
- The development of a gas-leak-proof chamber.
- Final resolution of the “Cook Off" problems associated with earlier designs.
